Sometimes you want an image bigger than an icon to tell your players what they need to find to complete their quests, like a large flower or a border to help the important info stand out from the map in the background. Luckily Marimo has us covered.
Caz shared Marimo’s Dragonbun HD Item Icons with the forum, linking us to some incredible resources for item icons sized at 250x250 pixels. Three free packs offer up a selection of gorgeous painted icons to choose from, so let’s take a look at some of each pack’s pieces. First up is Freebies Pack 1, which includes icons for plants like a bunch of flowers and a single plant leaf, along with a broken bottle. Each image has multiple color variations, so you could have a quest to collect red, yellow, and blue leaves to brew a special potion, or have to give yellow, pink, or white flowers to specific NPCs to gain access to an underground casino.
The 250x250 pixel-sized icons aren’t the only thing to be found in the pack though, since Marimo also included resized images so that they can be used as message faces!
The pack also has the icons sized to be used as a normal icon in MV/MZ, so once your players find the thing the quest asked for they can easily see the item in their inventory. If you use one of the plugins that allows for larger icons in the menu, then you could always use the larger images to make your menu stand out.
Moving on to the next pack, the Item Borders Pack 1 is easy to overlook but holds a bunch of useful backgrounds to help your icon images stand out. With more than 50 square borders to choose from in two main styles (modern and fantasy) and colorful variations including rainbow versions to highlight special items, these borders can help your players tell just how important a certain item is without having to have it explained in words to them.
Besides the 250x250 pixel-sized borders, this pack also includes 4 windowskins that match the border styles, making it easier to create a specific feel for your game’s cutscenes and menus.
The last pack in the thread is the Freebies Pack 8, this time focusing on 4 different weapons. Let your player choose their weapon of choice at the beginning of the game, replacing the common sword with clubs, scythes, and spears.
Each icon has a few color options to let your players wield grey ironwood versions with improved stats as they get farther into the game, but the highlights of this pack are the elemental variations. Give your players even more options when it comes to battles by offering powerful elemental weapons that can kill monsters that have a weakness to that element or possibly heal a foe who is strong against that element. With visual elements like fire, wind, darkness, and love, you can make your players think on their feet and switch out weapons before boss battles to make sure that they have the upper hand.
If you’ve been looking for a new windowskin to fit your fantasy world or need some pretty pictures to help take your quest/item descriptions to the next level, make sure to check our Marimo’s free Dragonbun HD Item Icons!
